Premium British luggage brand, Antler, celebrates its 50th year in Bury in 2012 and marked the occasion with some VIP visitors.
Yvonne Creswell, mayoress of Bury, along with Bury FC striker, Andy Bishop and Antler’s 150-strong workforce, toasted to the triumph of 50 successful years at the Alfred Street mill, which has been home to Antler since it relocated from the Midlands in 1962. Other toast attendees were Antler employees Diane Real, who celebrates her 50th birthday later this year, and David Bone, who will retire in March after 46 years working for the luggage specialist.
Antler has a long and established tradition of producing quality luggage and chief executive of the company, David Benjamin, said the company was proud of its 98 year British heritage and strong North West roots.
“It’s fantastic that our anniversary of coming to Bury falls within such a monumental year and we’d like to thank all our customers, past and present, and members of the local community for their continued support.
“Antler is a quintessential British brand and it continues to build upon a unique heritage that has embraced and pioneered new developments in the luggage industry,” said David.
“At Antler, we are very proud of our British heritage and we look forward to continuing to promote quality British brands around the world for many years to come.”
Mayor of Bury, Cllr Creswell, added: “It’s a real honour to be here to celebrate Antler’s 50th year in Bury. We are very proud to have such an iconic brand on our doorstep that supports the economy both locally and nationally and I wish them every success for the future.”
To coincide with the start of the anniversary celebrations, Antler is giving away 50 flight bags to the first 50 customers who spend £50 or more at its factory outlet, located next to the Alfred Street mill.
This sees the beginning of an eventful year as Antler has launched a diary of exciting events to celebrate the monumental year, including joint celebrations with Bury FC and Antler’s charity of the year, Make-a-Wish Foundation.
